14th Century timber frame Inn specialising in local produce served in comfortable relaxed surroundings.
The Golden Cross is the oldest public house in Shrewsbury, with an unbroken tradition of hospitality stretching back to 1428.
Originally the sacristry for St. Chad's Church, the ruins of which are just across the road, over the centuries it has undergone many more transformations and been, variously, ale house, tavern, Royalist retreat and takeaway sausage shop, albeit an 18th century one!
Now owned by Gareth and Theresa Reece, the Golden Cross is a family-run inn dedicated to stimulating the entire spectrum of pleasure.
We have just 5 quirky bedrooms at the Golden Cross, nestling amongst our medieval eaves. Simple but wholesome, they’ve all recently been refurnished with a funky mix of antique and
The Golden Cross has one of the best reputations for dining in Shrewsbury, bringing a
combination of traditional ingredients and modern flavours to the table. Our menus change monthly to reflect the availability of seasonal produce, and as many of our ingredients as possible are coaxed from local suppliers.
We open from 12-2.30pm for lunch and from 5.30-10pm for dinner every day, and our unfathomably deep cellar stocks a surprisingly eclectic selection of wines, local real ales and cider. We also have a 2-course supper menu available between 5.30 & 6.30pm at just £11.95!
