Description
A renovated railway carriages offering all modern luxuries in a former country station setting. Away from it all, near the river. HEART OF ENGLAND SELF CATERING HOLIDAY OF THE YEAR 2006The carriages are available for weekly holiday lettings and short breaks, being ideally suited for both families or mixed parties who either want to relax in the tranquillity of its 4 acres of private grounds, or explore one of England's and the World's unique historical sites. That of Ironbridge and the surrounding area, of which Coalport is included. It achieved a United Nation's World Heritage Site listing as the birth place of the Industrial Revolution. The Ironbridge area has 10 museums, in fact nearly every building or landmark has a link with the past, even Coalport Bridge, which is a stones throw away, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Coalport Railway Station is on the old Severn Valley railway which closed in 1968 but the buildings of the Station Masters House, the Waiting Rooms and the opposite platform Ticket Office remain together with both platforms.
The re-building of the interior and exterior of the carriages took over 12 months by various professional building, plumbing and electrical companies. All of the craftsmen seemed to take an extra special pride in their work as this was such a unique project for all of them, with so many different problems and unforeseen requirements. With carriage two the problems were multiplied as this one has two full bathrooms with walk-in showers and large whirlpool baths add to this LPG central heating and again air conditioning that it was decided to convert and fit out off site by a railway restoration company. Each carriage is completely separated from the other and NOT interconnecting.
Every comfort and convenience is here within the carriages for guests, modern bathrooms with whirlpool baths, showers, large LCD TVs, DVD players and Bosch / AEG kitchen appliances including dishwashers and washing machines as well as air conditioning. The bed linen is of cotton with duvets and the towels are Christy, we also provide a travel cot and high-chair. We do not allow smoking, or pets in the carriages and grounds.
Carriage 1 is designed more for families and larger parties, sleeping 6, 1 master and 2 twin bedrooms. The Master Bedroom is en-suite with a corner whirlpool bath. There is also a Shower-room with a toilet and sink. Carriage 2 is designed more for couples, friends and smaller families with older children. It sleeps 4 in 2 Master Bedrooms with en-suite walk in Shower rooms which also feature large Whirlpool Baths. The bedrooms are equipped with 15” LCD TV with DVD players.
For children we have garden Tonka toys, to distract them whilst Mum and Dad put the kettle on and unwind. Our own woodland walk is a particular favourite with guests young and old. Whatever the time of the year for your stay, there is always something to see, from the beautiful woodland flowers in the spring, to the ferns, mosses, lichens and fungi. Our walk leads up the hillside and has handrails for those who may have walking difficulties; it is gradually being extended with the help of the lads from Care (a local charity for adults with learning difficulties) who come once a week when the weather is fine. For ornithologists and other wildlife enthusiasts, the grounds seem to be a magnet for all types of birds and wildlife; deer, badgers, foxes, bats, moles and buzzards to name but a few.
