Description
A Wonderful Way to Spend a Day - The Severn Valley Railway operates mainly steam-hauled passenger trains between Bridgnorth, Bewdley and Kidderminster, a journey of about 16 miles, along the beautiful Severn Valley.
There is no better way to see the beauty of the River Severn than from one of these steam-hauled trains.
Trains operate most weekends and daily from May to September. The Railway also operates during all local school holidays throughout the year. The SVR website gives details of operating dates and the timetable in operation.
The Engine House, the Visitor Centre at Highley is well worth a visit. It houses the SVRs reserve collection of steam locomotives in an exhibition setting. There is also a very attractive buffet/restaurant with superb views across the railway and the Severn Valley. There is also a gift-shop.
The Railway arranges a series of special events throughout the year which have broad appeal to adult audiences and family groups. The 1940s Weekends are possibly the most popular but the season of winter ‘Santa’ services are always a winner with families. Railway enthusiasts are also well catered for with a total of three special weekends, two steam and one diesel, spread throughout the year.
Tickets can be booked in advance either on-line of by telephone, usually at reduced prices, or you can purchase tickets on the day of your visit. ‘Freedom of the Line’ Bridgnorth to Kidderminster fares represent the best value and also include FREE admission to the Visitor Centre at Highley.
