The Isle Bed and Breakfast
B&B in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Set in a bow of the River Severn, The Isle is a period country house, steeped in history in a peaceful location just 4 miles from Shrewsbury. The estate has been in the same family since approximately 1450.Approached up an oak lined drive just under a mile long, the Estate owns all the land within the bow of the river.
The bedrooms are beautifully furnished with antiques and all mod cons (TV, DVD Player and iPod dock, internet access, hairdryers etc). The beds have top quality sprung mattresses and crisp white bed linen. Breakfast (and dinner upon request) is served in the panelled oak dining room and there is also a separate sitting room for guests. The emphasis is very much on local produce and vegetables grown in the walled garden are served at supper.
In winter the house is kept warm by a giant straw/log burner which is fed with wood from the farm. There are scenic walks along the river or around the 10 acre lake behind the house. Carp fishing is also available on the lake for guests by prior arrangement. Nature lovers will find a wealth of wildlife, over 200 geese often graze the field behind the house, otters have been spotted on the lake and river (there is an artificial holt by the river).
Well behaved dogs can be accommodated in the centrally heated boot room or in a kennel and run outside. There are also facilities for visiting horses, grazing, stables and ménage, as well as off road riding around the estate. With many ancient bridle paths and trails only a short distance away.
History buffs will find the original semi derelict house built in 1450, the old moat, site of a Saxon fort and 1,000 year old carp lake fascinating.
