Attraction in Oswestry, Shropshire
Based in Oswestry, one of the UK's oldest border settlements, the markets were first formed some 800 years ago. We have a fantastic award winning indoor market held every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; an outdoor street market every Wednesday and Saturday and an impressive Artisan market held on the last Friday of each month where you will find the best local produce and crafts.
Amongst this idyllic and picturesque but bustling marketplace there is a huge variety of different businesses and shops on display, with everything from antiques, books, printing, hair dressers, household gifts, party wares, cake making, haberdashery and even the only Welsh shop located in England. There are also great quality bakers, fish monger, butchers, farm shops, delicatessens and quaint coffee shops offering free Wi-Fi. The best thing about the markets is that there's something for everybody to enjoy, whether they be young or old, local or tourists, there is a shop or stall or artisan product for everybody. Oswestry boasts numerous events during the year, including the Antique Markets, Gardening and Family Fun Days, Food Festivals and other seasonal events. We even have a huge Hot Air Balloon Festival planned for the end of August.
In addition there are heaps of independent and specialist shops and cafes in the town suitable for all tastes and a number of historic pubs offering great food and craft beers, perfect for a long day of shopping. Whilst in town enjoy the Town Museum found in the top floor of the picturesque Guildhall, wander around the award winning Cae Glas Park and visit the galleries on Willow Street, the Qube Community Centre and at the Oswestry Visitor Centre which is located within one of the oldest buildings in Oswestry adjacent to the beautiful St Oswald’s Church.
