It’s a five star line-up at the Shop of the Year
Ludlow Food Centre collects multiple awards at Great Taste 2016
Celebrations are under way after Ludlow Food Centre scooped five awards in one of the speciality food and drink sectors most widely-recognised competitions – the annual Great Taste Awards. The south Shropshire food hall has received five separate gold stars for products that are all made onsite in Bromfield.
Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, 2016’s Great Taste competition accepted 10,000 entries from producers throughout the UK and beyond. Over 49 days, 400 expert judges decided which products were worthy of this year’s stars. With only around a third of all the products being successfully selected, Ludlow Food Centre claimed a star for each of the following:
Handmade Cultured Butter – Made with fresh milk from the Oakly Park dairy herd, hand patted by Ludlow Food Centre’s cheesemakers and dairy experts, Dudley and Paul
Espresso Blend No.3 – the Food Centre’s best-selling coffee made with single estate beans, hand roasted by coffee expert, Julie Hawkins
Old Smoked Spot Coppa – A sensational traditional air-dried beef, packed with hearty flavour, using beef from the Oakly Park Estate
Beetroot & Black Pepper Bacon – an eye-catching bacon made using the Estate’s Gloucester Old Spot pork, with a gentle kick of earthy spices
Chicken Liver Pâté – A wonderfully smooth and balanced pâté, perfect on freshly-baked bread from Ludlow Food Centre
Managing Director at Ludlow Food Centre, Jon Edwards, explains: "These are my first Great Taste Awards since joining Ludlow Food Centre and it’s really satisfying that the results span a number of our departments. A massive congratulations goes to every one of our departments for their skill and hard work that makes achievements like this possible – and a special well done goes to our coffee roaster, Julie, whose Espresso Blend No. 3 has been awarded a Gold Star for the third year in a row. I'm incredibly proud to work with such a talented team.”
Now that product stars have been announced, the awards progress to the Golden Fork Awards ceremony in early September. Here, Regional and Specialist Categories are announced – and it was in September last year that Ludlow Food Centre was awarded the title of Shop of the Year.
