Bring in the harvest at Dudmaston this Sunday
Tuck into a taste of autumn at Dudmaston this Sunday 16 October and join us as we celebrate the bounty of fruit our orchard has produced this year. Sample some freshly squeezed Dudmaston apple juice straight from the press and buy a bottle to take home. Grow your own apples at home? We’ll press them for you. Donations welcome.
Shropshire stallholders will be selling a selection of locally produced treats including cakes, jams, pickles and cheese and the tearoom will be serving up their Orchard Day special, toffee apple cake, as well as their seasonal menu of hearty snacks and lunches. Stop by the recipe tree for ideas and inspiration when cooking with apples and share some of your own favourites with us. Shrewsbury Morris Dancers will be providing music and dancing throughout the day and there will be an opportunity for families to decorate an applehead in the activities tent. Enter your creation into our competition for a chance to win a superb prize.
Events and Marketing Officer, Alexandra Blakeman said: “We grow lots of varieties of apples in the orchard here at Dudmaston including Cox’s Orange Pippin, William Crump and my favourite Laxton Superb. Orchard Day is a great opportunity to learn about and taste each variety and judging by the bags and bags of apples the garden team have picked over the last month, the apple press will be working extra hard this year.”
The days are getting shorter but we’ve still got loads of autumn adventures planned for this Half Term at Dudmaston. Feeling brave? Join the ghoulish garden trail or have a go at making a Halloween lantern in the activities tent (Mon 24, Wed 26 &Sun 30 October). Settle down for a spooky story time in Gerards Wood on Sunday 30 October with Simon our Storybodger. Please visit our website for activity prices and booking.
Normal admission charge applies with a small additional charge for crafts.
