Top awards for Shropshire Hotel Goldstone Hall
The 2017 Edition of the Good Hotel Guide is launched today, Monday 10th October and Shropshire hotel Goldstone Hall has received two prestigious awards.
The Good Hotel Guide was founded nearly 40 years ago to shine a spotlight on the best hotels in Great Britain and Ireland where guests are assured of a genuine welcome. The guide does not accept payments or hospitality for an entry, giving them freedom to make an unbiased judgement. The guide is edited by Astella Saw, Adam Raphael and Nicola Davies with Caroline Raphael as Editor in Chief.
This year the guide has identified 10 new discoveries within their 455 entries and this includes Goldstone Hall which is situated between Newport and Market Drayton.
“Informal and characterful, this family run Georgian manor house stands in large grounds in Shropshire countryside. Bedrooms are individually decorated and supplied with homemade cookies; an inviting log fire burns in the lounge in cold weather. Come hungry: the huge kitchen garden supplies the modern dinners and “delicious” breakfasts.”
The Editors were particularly impressed by the Gardens and have identified them as one of the top ten hotel gardens in Great Britain. The “Extraordinary” kitchen garden is one of the largest at any hotel in the UK with a herb walkway of a hundred or so varieties. There is a double herbaceous border in which Ballerina roses dance in the breeze.
The main entry in the guide the hotel is praised for its inviting lounges, leather chairs; tables are “nicely spaced” in the restaurant where “beautifully presented” modern meals use trugfuls of home grown vegetables and fruit. Smart bedrooms are kitted out with fresh milk and home-made biscuits: a deep bath in the bathroom and delightful view of the grounds. One Inspector said “we could have slept for days in the super comfy beds, do wake; breakfast is delicious, home-baked bread, perfectly poached eggs even excellent home- made veggie sausages with tasty Staffordshire oatcakes”.
Proprietors, John and Sue Cushing are delighted to have had such praise heaped on Goldstone Hall. “There is a massive team involved in achieving this extraordinary attention to detail and it is wonderful when it is recognised on a national stage” said John Cushing. “The development of the Kitchen garden has been challenging and rewarding as we have worked out the produce that really brings extra flavour and interest to our guest’s plates. This has is due to the efforts of Head Gardener Nick Huxley who can coax the more unusual vegetables and fruit into full production.
John and Cushing will receive the awards on behalf of the Goldstone team at a ceremony in London at Olympia on Tuesday 18th October, For further information please contact John Cushing 01630661202 email@example.com www.goldstonehall.com
