Right on the Shropshire Way, The Shippen is the perfect rural getaway for 2-4 people in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Shippen is a detached, light, spacious, open-plan barn conversion with an oak and glass gable overlooking the fabulous, un-spoilt Linley Valley - providing home comforts and a great base for outdoor pursuits. The property has been carefully renovated with exposed beams, oak joinery and flooring, a wood burning stove and central heating, and a stylish, modern interior. There is a king size bed, double sofa bed, well-stocked, contemporary fitted kitchen with breakfast bar, a dining table with benches, a wet room with basin, WC and under floor heating, a corner sofa, a smart T.V with FreeSat, Netflix and a PlayStation 3, books and board games, extra blankets and lots of other extras to make sure you have a lovely, comfortable stay. There is guest parking for up to two cars directly outside The Shippen with a flat flagstone entrance.
Guest Access and Surroundings
The property is surrounded by the most beautiful Shropshire countryside, with miles and miles beautiful countryside and woodland with stunning views and star-filled night skies and a brook for paddling at the bottom of the valley the immediate area is absolutely stunning. Steeped in peace and quiet, it’s located within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Sites of Special Scientific Interest very close by. It’s ideal for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and kite flyers! The Shropshire Way runs alongside the main house. The Stiperstones and the Long Mynd are just a few minutes’ drive away. There are lots of pretty villages and market towns, castles, woodland and hills to explore. The area is great for birdwatching, romantic walks or more challenging hill walking, cycling, riding, golfing, hang gliding, good food, local music, book and arts festivals, houses and gardens.
Interaction with Guests
The detached barn is a short distance from the house, and is completely independent from it and not overlooked. The owners aim to give guests privacy whilst also being available to answer any questions, so please do ask if there's anything you need, they’re happy to help where they can. They're even happy to pick you up from the local pub if they’re around!
Out and About
The location is very rural, so a car and following the driving directions to the property from the owners is essential. Come prepared with food essentials for self-catering, eat out nearby at The Bridges Inn or visit the market towns of Shrewsbury, Church Stretton or Bishop's Castle with their attractive streets, cafes, museums, breweries and arts and antiques. .... all an easy drive away... or shop at the large, well-stocked wholefood store just 10 minutes away.
The county town of Shrewsbury on the banks of the River Severn is just a 25-minute drive away; much loved for its fine buildings, cobbled streets, museums, restaurants, and fantastic independent and high-street shops.
Ludlow, famed for its castle, beautiful architecture, food fair, Michelin starred restaurants and other gastronomic delights is a 40 minute drive away, and the drive passes medieval Stokesay Castle.
A little further afield are the famous gardens at Powys Castle and The Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, and for book-lovers Hay-on-Wye famed for its antique and book shops is about an hour's drive away and hosts a great literary festival every year.
A car is essential for exploring the local market towns and bringing luggage/supplies. There are regular buses to/from Shrewsbury from Bishop Castle (Minsterley Motors). Masses of great walking and cycling. The property is in a valley which makes a wonderful walking/cycling circuit, approx. 7K.
Other Things to Note
Domentic oil, electricity, water, logs for the wood burner and fresh linen for two people (bed linen, towels and tea towels) is included in the standard price. There is an extra charge of £30.00 to cover additional bed linen and towels for more than two people. Please indicate the number of beds required upon booking. Clean, house trained, well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement only, please contact the owners to discuss. There is no extra charge for pets.
A cleaning service is not provided but the owners happily provide weekly fresh bed linen and towels. Storage for bikes or camping equipment in their barn can be arranged. Sainsbury's will deliver. There is a lovely riverside pub in Ratlinghope called The Bridges serving great food and locally brewed ale just a couple of miles away.
