Ellis Peters (Edith Mary Pargeter 1913 - 1995)

Ellis PetersEdith Mary Pargeter was born on 28th September in Horsehay, Shropshire. She had Welsh ancestry which was reflected in her many novels with many being set in Wales and the borderlands or have Welsh protagonists.

She was a well-known author who wrote in many differnt genres especially history and historical fiction. She was honoured for her translations of Czech classics.

She is perhaps best known for her murder mysteries, both historical and modern.

During the second World War she held an administrative role in the Women's Royal Naval Service, and received the British Empire Medal - BEM.

Shewrote under many pseudonyms and it was under the name of Ellis Peters that she wrote her highly popular series of Brother cadfael medieval mystery novels, many of which were filmed for television in the 1990s.

Edith Pargetter dies on the 14th October 1995.
