Cold Weston

Cold Weston is a deserted medieval village. It is situated at a height of two hundred and sixty metres on the lower slopes of the Clee Hills. Only a single solitary cottage and a church survives. These are surrounded by extensive earthworks representing the road, houses and fields of the now vanished medieval village.

The church is dedicated to saint Mary and is is mostly twelfth century in date.

The first records of Cold Weston date from 1090 but it seems the village declined in the fourteenth century. In 1341 the parish was only valued at 4s3d compared to 5.3s0d in 1291. The records indicate that abundance of cattle that once roamed there had been decreasing due to the 'murrain' (pestilence) that prevailed in the area. The chapel was offered to four parsons all refused it.
