Culmington
Culmington is located in lower Corvedale and contains the magnificent remains of a Motte and Bailey castle known as 'Camp Ring'. There are no known surviving medieval references to either its history or owners.
It stands on a low ridge above water-meadows between the River Corve and Pye Brook. The circular motte is just over two metres in height and is surrounded by a ditch which would have possibly been filled with water.
An attached further bailey is fifty meters in diameter and is enclosed by a five metre wide bank and outer ditch.
