Gardens Galore

North Shropshire has many wonderful gardens, this four day tour allows each member of the group to visit some of the best gardens in area, including landscaped, water and ornamental gardens set within beautiful countryside. At several of the gardens you will have the opportunity to purchase plants to take home.

Day 1

10.00am Percy Thrower's Garden Centre
Percy Thrower's Garden Centre is run by the late Percy Thrower’s three daughters Margaret, Sue and Ann. The centre caters for both the keen experienced gardener, the inexperienced amateur as well as visitors who will enjoy the extensive range of inspirational ideas for the garden, the home and the whole family. There is a choice of indoor and outdoor plants & gardening equipment, pet accessories, aquatics, as well as a full range of great gift ideas, and there is always something new to see. Colourful plant displays year round, Garden ornaments, aquatics, quality patio and garden furniture, unusual gifts and cards and craft and hobby department.

*Wollerton Old Hall Gardens is located just off the A53.

2.00 Wollerton Old Hall Gardens
The 20th century garden is set around the 16th century house (not open). The garden is formally designed which has created many separate gardens, all with individual planting and design. There are many collections of tender salvias, clematis, crocosmias and many other rare perennials. Private parties need to book (min 25) Afternoon tea can be taken in the tea rooms.

Day Two

10.00 Dobbies Garden Centre
With a plant area that is well stocked all year round, there is a huge choice for everyone whether you are a gardening beginner or a practised enthusiast. If retail therapy is what you’re after, Dobbies is more than a wonderful garden centre. There is an extensive range of home and giftware on offer to tempt the discerning shopper with choices such as glass and ceramics, silk and dried flowers, candles, books for all ages, kitchen and bathroom accessories, toys, prints and greetings cards.

There is a large licensed restaurant to have lunch should you prefer.

2.00 Hawkstone Park and Follies 
Take a quick stop for refreshments in the coffee shop and look around the gift shop which also includes an exhibition on the history of the Follies.

Walking Tour 
Hawkstone Park is a Grade 1 listed landscape including grottoes, tunnels, cliffs and castles, all set within a fantasy woodland made of centuries old oaks and wild rhododendrons. The area was used as the setting for the BBC’s Land of Narnia series and also has legendary connections with King Arthur. There are many events held throughout the year and a leaflet with the walking tour is provided.

Day Three

*Take the A53 from Shrewsbury towards Market Drayton, after Market Drayton take a left turn on to the A51, the Dorothy Clive Garden is signposted.

10.00 The Dorothy Clive Garden
The Dorothy Clive garden has wonderful views of three counties and accommodates a wide range of plants. It's features include a quarry garden with a spectacular waterfall, flower borders, a scree and a water garden. There is a tea room for morning tea/coffee.

*Get back on the A51 and carry on in the same direction to Bridgemere Garden World.

Bridgemere Garden World

2.00 Bridgemere Garden World
Bridgemere garden world houses over 5,000 outdoor and indoor plants, you also get free entrance to the Bridgemere gardens. They have over 20 styles designed to inspire you. There is also a unique shopping experience offering gifts to garden furniture.

Day Four

*Take the A49 towards Tarporley, then take a right on to the A534 to Nantwich, then the A529 towards Stapeley, the Water Gardens are on the left off the A529

10.00 Stapeley Water Gardens 
Stapeley water gardens has plenty to offer. There are display pools, water features, national collection of water lillies and an angling centre. The Palms tropical oasis has a tropical house, stingray pool, reptiles, tamarin monkeys, tunnel of underwater life, world of frogs, an Italian garden and much more.

12.30 Lunch

*Take the A49 from Shrewsbury towards Whitchurch then on towards tarpoley. It is situated just off the road after Bickley Moss.

2.00 Cholmondeley Castle Garden
The garden is dominated by a romantic Gothic Castle, built in 1801 of local sandstone. There are ornamental gardens, a temple water garden, rose garden and many mixed borders. Plants are for sale and there is also a gift shop and tea room.
