Shropshire pubs, bars and breweries: enjoy a real pint in a real pub

Shropshire is a beer drinker’s dream destination, with real ale pubs serving well-kept, locally brewed ales, craft beers and guest beers. Cosy fireplaces, low beams, the occasional ghost…even live music if you’re lucky. Cider and perry drinkers are well catered for in Shropshire pubs and bars. We share a border with Herefordshire and Worcestershire, two of the orchards of England. Shropshire also has many lovely bars, with well-chosen wine lists and dazzling selections of gin. Pubs and food in Britain go hand in hand. Nowhere more so than in Shropshire, where we do both extremely well. From sandwiches and tasty bar snacks (think homemade scotch eggs or fat, delicious sausage rolls) to Sunday carveries or gourmet lunches, Shropshire will ensure you never drink on an empty stomach. You’ll find that all Shropshire pubs serving food are welcoming to families with young children, making them ideal places for Sunday roast or a family meal. Brewing is big business in Shropshire. Several Shropshire pubs have their own microbreweries. Bishop’s Castle in south Shropshire is home to two breweries. One of them is the oldest working brewery in Britain, its licence granted by King Charles I in 1642. There are distilleries too. Speciality and award winning Shropshire businesses, waiting to welcome you. Here’s to seeing you in a Shropshire pub soon…cheers!

Did you know Shrewsbury Castle's foundations were laid in 1083 by the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery?
Montgomery, a cousin of William the Conqueror, earned this castle and more as a thank-you for his aid during the Norman conquest.

From royal stronghold to a 16th-century transformation, Shrewsbury Castle has quite the story. Now, it stands majestically, housing the Shropshire Regimental Museum. 👑🏰 Ready to step into the pages of history?
