Severn Valley Railway clips 20% off fares for the school holidays!

The Severn Valley Railway is making a conscious and very deliberate overture to families and children during the schools summer holidays, by cutting its train fares by up to 20 per cent.

‘Millennium Squadron Print’ exhibition goes on display

A unique collection of aviation prints will be on display at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford from Friday 29th July 2011. The ‘Millennium Squadron Print’ exhibition is a collection of aviation prints of UK Armed Forces Flying Units that were in existence at 12.01am on the 1st January 2000.

Shropshire's Biggest Contemporary Craft and Fine Food Event - Gorgeous 2011, this October.

Designer makers from The Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft and guests will be holding their annual ‘Gorgeous’ selling exhibition this October at Enginuity, Ironbridge. The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and The Shropshire Guild have come together once again to organise this wonderful event to be held over the weekend of Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of October.

I’m a sixth former get me out of here…!

Local sixth form students aged 17-19 from Wednesfield High School, Wolverhampton, will be taking part in a two day challenge titled “I’m a sixth former get me out of here…!” This creative curriculum challenge, loosely based on the TV series “I’m a celebrity get me out of here…!” will be taking place on 18-19 July 2011 taking students on a 30+ mile round trip. Students will face a number of tough team tasks and individual challenges over the two days in order to earn their meals and rewards.

Challenge yourself with a walk over the edge

A South Shropshire landmark is set to host a challenging event as part of a national drive to get people out and about. As part of the National Trust’s Walking Festival later this year, there will be an 18 mile walk or run along Wenlock Edge on 23 October 2011.

Ironbridge Gorge Museums Celebrate London 2012 Open Weekend

With just a year to go you can celebrate the London 2012 Open Weekend, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July, at the Ironbridge Gorge Museums in Shropshire. The Science, Sport, Life Festival on Saturday 23rd July is a fun family event on the Green at Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, with plenty of free opportunities to try different sports and activities, while on Sunday 24th you can watch the Blists Hill Victorian Town residents compete in a series of quirky, historic challenges.

Messing about on the river - in a coracle!

Ironbridge Coracle Regatta, held between 12noon and 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday, 29th August attracts coracle makers and paddlers from all over Britain to participate in an array of madcap races. Featuring team games, coracle polo matches and other fiercely contended competitions, it takes place along the picturesque stretch of the River Severn at Dale End Park, Ironbridge.
