Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre to celebrate RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
The team at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre will be celebrating the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch on Saturday 30th January where visitors will be treated to a whole day dedicated to birds.
Visitors to the Discovery Centre just off the A49 in Craven Arms can get up close to Barns Owls, Tawny Owls and a Little Owl from Chelmarsh Owl Sanctuary. Gill Hales has spent many years rescuing owls and has also written a book ‘My family of owls’ .
There will also be activities throughout the day for all the family including a talk given by local expert Leo Smith on Red Kites at 2pm, enjoy some bird spotting from the Red Kite hide in the Onny Meadows hosted by volunteers, make your own bird feeders, and be enthralled with ‘How the Nightingale got is Song’ from local storyteller Mike Rust at 11.30am.
Catherine Collier, Marketing and Development Manager said ‘We wanted to follow the success of last year’s event to help beat the winter blues, get out and about to celebrate the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. What better way than inviting visitors to come along and learn how to look after our British birds. RSPB will be on hand to give advice as well as workshops for making bird feeders, learn more about our Red Kite project and visit the hide in our 30 acres of Meadows. Throughout the day visitors to the Discovery Centre will have a real treat - getting up close to the Great British Barn Owl’.
The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is open 7 days a week 10am – 5pm, the Visitor Centre offers a variety of activities for the whole family and houses a replica of the famous mammoth skeleton found in Shropshire.
