Description

Holiday accommodation for two people. For hikers and bikers, poets and painters, writers and riders, in beautiful Shropshire.

Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, our self-catering accommodation leaves you free to explore the many interesting and historic places nearby. Much Wenlock, the birthplace of the modern Olympics, is just 3 miles away and Ironbridge, a World Heritage Site and birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, only 7 miles away. The surrounding countryside forms an excellent base for the country-lover all year round. Bring your boots, bike or horse. There are cross-country routes for walkers, wonderful scenic routes for cyclists and nearby riding stables for equestrian enthusiasts, where livery is available for anyone choosing to bring their own horse. There are only two buses per week locally; however buses do run frequently to neighbouring towns from Much Wenlock, linking to several railway stations. Bridgnorth has the Severn Valley Steam Railway which runs as far as Kidderminster, stopping at Bewdley en route – well worth a visit. Roads surrounding the property are narrow and winding in places and consideration needs to be given to horseriders and cyclists.

Walking opportunities

Much Wenlock is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town which guarantees you a series of waymarked routes from the town centre. There are many cross-country routes for walkers. The Clee Hills, Stiperstones, Wrekin and Long Mynd are all within easy reach. It is only a short walk from The Birdhouse to Wenlock Edge, Jack Mytton Way and the Shropshire Way.

Cycling

Come and explore Shropshire, there are wonderful scenic routes for cyclists. Bourton is situated in unspoiled countryside with many quiet roads with interesting destinations in every direction, including Church Stretton, Ludlow, Clun, Bishops Castle, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth.

Horse Riding

There are riding stables nearby where you can book a ride or bring your own horse on holiday. There is easy access to bridleways.

Accommodation

The Birdhouse is an upper storey, gas centrally heated, spacious and sensitively designed, coach-house style building with one bedroom. It was built around ten years ago using re-claimed materials. The interior has been fitted out in the last two years to provide a stylish, yet very comfortable, holiday retreat for those who want a truly memorable self-catering home from home. The accommodation is on the first floor, accessed via external stone steps with lighting; these may make it unsuitable for those with mobility problems. Opening for the first time in April 2014, we are anxious that our guests enjoy a comfortable stay while they enjoy the delights of the many nearby attractions. The holiday let has Wi-Fi coverage.

There is everything for a quiet, country holiday. There are three rooms, each with old oak floorboards with short pile rugs to provide a cosier feel. The open plan kitchen is well supplied with very good quality crockery, glassware and cooking equipment. It has maple worktops with an integrated fridge, small freezer, microwave, oven, toaster and breakfast bar to one side and a comfortable settee together with a low coffee table and Freesat TV on the other. The widescreen digital television has a remote control, subtitles, and a radio. The bedroom also has Freesat TV, a large, high quality 5' 2" zip-and-link pocket sprung double bed, extremely comfortable and beautifully dressed with good quality linen, which is provided. The bed may be divided into two 31" single beds, if preferred. There is a separate washroom leading from the entrance hall in which there is a shower, WC and wash basin with a large illuminated mirror and a shaver point over. Towels are provided.

A garden table and chairs for guests are provided on the lawn next to The Birdhouse with views to a horse paddock. Covered parking is available in a small courtyard area immediately adjacent to The Birdhouse. This area is well lit at night by motion sensor lights.

We live on site in a separate building and will be available to welcome you and help make your stay as pleasant as possible.

The accommodation is non-smoking. We regret we do not accept pets. Sorry this property in unsuitable for small children.
