Mary Webb Society Unveil Bronze Bust of Mary Webb
On the 9th July the Mary Webb Society unveiled a bronze bust of Mary Webb created by Clun sculptor Jemma Pearson, which is mounted on a pedestal carved from local Grinshill stone.
It was unveiled by Society President Dr.Gladys Mary Coles and two great nieces of Mary Webb and stands in the grounds of Shrewsbury Library which Mary visited regularly throughout her life.
The project was made possible thanks to the generous legacy of the late Muriel Furbank, friend and committee member.
This was all achieved in the centenary year of the publication of Mary Webb's first novel The Golden Arrow. The Mary Webb Society wanted to commemorate Mary with a public art piece sited in her home town and in 2016 they achieved their dream'.
